As a 1st generation, working class, queer Samoan woman/activist of color, I am rooted in my devotion to my Pacific Islander people, especially our youth. Through college access and spoken word poetry, I drive the development of Pacific Islander youth, advocating for self-empowerment so they can create sustainable impact in their communities, starting with themselves. It is time that we share in teaching, listen, step aside, and let them speak.
Vote for my girl & inspiration Terisa Siagatonu for the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders ”What’s Your Story?” video challenge. Out of 200 submissions, her video has been chosen as one of 11 finalists who may have the chance to go to the White House to share the story of not only herself, but of the P.I. youth and community. Deadline to vote is March 1, 2012.
